Dr Jonathan Hill will share his award-winning research at Physiotherapy UK in Liverpool
Dr Jonathan Hill received the £1,000 prize for research into the effectiveness of back pain treatments, which included a trial of the “STarT Back” model of care.

Physio wins “silver medal” for back pain research

A speaker at this year’s Physiotherapy UK (PUK) has been named as the winner of the 2012 Arthritis Research UK physiotherapy silver medal award.

He will be sharing details of this research at PUK 2012 and hopes the results will help to inform those involved in the commissioning and provision of clinical services.
Dr Hill, a researcher representative on CSP Council, is a research physiotherapist at the Arthritis Research UK Primary Care Centre at Keele University.
‘Back pain is very common in the UK and is a major cause of pain and disability, so I’m delighted that my research received this recognition,’ said Dr Hill.
‘The study found that, when compared to best current care, the “STarT Back” approach improved disability, pain and distress and, importantly, helped patients take less time off work.’
His PUK talk will help delegates understand the treatment interventions delivered within the “STarT Back” model, the potential barriers to its implementation and strategies for adopting the approach into their local clinical pathways.
Dr Hill added that he hoped news of his award win would highlight that physiotherapists are committed to producing high quality research and delivering evidence based practice.
